Choosing Your First Distance Without Regretting It
Published 7 Sept 2026
There is a particular kind of disappointment that comes from paying for a challenge and then watching the completion window close with 12 of 50 kilometres logged. It is avoidable, and it is almost always a sizing problem rather than a motivation one.
## Start from what you already do
Add up an honest week. Not your best week - a normal one, with the late meeting and the day it rained. If that number is 8 km, a 10K challenge across a month is a win you will actually collect. A 50K is a month of guilt.
## Remember the window is the point
Virtual challenges give you weeks, not one morning. A 25K challenge across six weeks is roughly 4 km a week. Read the distance against the window before you read it against your ego.
## Walking counts, fully
On any challenge tagged for walking, walked kilometres are the same kilometres. Same medal, same certificate, no asterisk anywhere.
## You can move up
Distances are changeable from your dashboard until the completion window closes. Starting at 10K and upgrading in week three is a far better story than starting at 50K and stopping in week two.
